2024-25 Winter Season Information

Hello current and future Gateway Coed players! 

We are looking forward to starting our 7th season as a league this September 2024!

Our Monday night coed league at Gateway Arena is projected to start September 23rd.  

The last day to register for the summer season is September 8th.

For those who haven't played in our league before, there is a 'try-in' on September 9th.  A 'try-in' consists of a few short hockey drills at the beginning for approx. 20 mins and a shinny game for the remainder of the time. These sessions are utilized by our team captains for gauging your skill level and setting your ranking. These rankings are ultimately used to ensure a fair distribution of skill amongst the teams. 

The cost for the winter season will be $475 per Player and $300 per Goalie.  

This season will consist of 25 games, which is inclusive of playoffs.

If you are new to the league, first of all - welcome!

We pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive environment on the ice that focuses on welcoming players of ALL skill levels. Since we are a league founded on the principle of 'All is Welcome', we do have some league processes in place to ensure the teams are balanced accordingly. Each player that has previously played in our league, have been assigned a ranking by their team captain. If you are new to our league, we ask that you participate in our 'try-in' before the season, which is usually scheduled the week before the first game. These try-ins are a way for our executives to understand where your individual skill level is in comparison to other players in the league. From there, using that evaluation, we will place you on the most optimal team. A try-in typically consists of a few short hockey drills at the beginning, with a fun shinny for the remainder of the time.

Similar to our current season, you will have the option to split payment (if you wish to do so). A payment of $237.50 will be due the first game of the season, and the balance must be paid within 6 weeks after the first scheduled game. Failure to pay the balance will be met with a $50 late payment fee, which will be issued by the arena. The registration fee guarantees a full liability dental and medical insurance.

You will be provided a team jersey, however you are required to return it at the end of the season. Failure to return your jersey (in useable condition) will be met with a $30 replacement fee. 

Hockey socks will not be provided by the league. 

Attendance is very important for the smooth operation of the league. Should you be unable to attend a game, please communicate your absence to your team captain. If you have three consecutive absences without communication, you will be considered withdrawn from the league. Refunds will be given at the discretion of the arena. 

We recognize that you want to play with your family or friends, so you can request (1) person you wish to play with upon registration. Please note that your requested person must name you in their registration as well.  We will do our best to accommodate your request, but cannot make any guarantees. 

We do have some league specific rules that are foundational to the inclusive environment that we build. Please read them and carefully consider them before registering. 

• A limit of one hat trick per player, per game will be instituted.
• When carrying the puck from your defensive zone, you must pass the puck a minimum of one time before shooting on net. This is known as the 'HOT DOG RULE' and will be enforced by the experienced referees. 
• For the safety of all players, no defensive diving is prohibited.

Our main goal is to maintain a positive, team focused attitude on the ice. Please carefully consider this before registering. Failure to do anything but that, may result in removal from the league. We strongly believe hockey is for everyone to enjoy, regardless of skill level, and that is the mentality we expect from all players on the ice. 

Please note, that the Gateway Coed Hockey league retains the right to remove any player from the league, for any reason, without reimbursement.

We will continue to follow the arenas COVID guidelines and requirements, as supported by the government.
